Two children injured at a California elementary school
Citing witnesses and police, Agence France-Presse news agency reported that an unknown man opened fire on the grounds of an elementary school north of San Diego, California. Two children, one six and the other seven, were injured in the incident. At present, they are in hospital and their lives are not in danger.
CNN reports that the children who were hurt were not in the school building at the time of the shooting because they went out into the courtyard during recess.
According to Agence France-Presse, the man who fired the shots was apprehended by two construction workers who were near the scene at the time. “CNN” reports that one of the workers ran his truck over an intruder, after which the attacker was neutralized by other workers.
After the incident, all students were taken to a park near the school, where their parents later came to pick them up.
As for the suspect, it is reported that the man is forty-one years old and likely to have a mental disorder. The Agence France-Presse reports that the policeman was in possession of a propane tank, a canister of gasoline and cartridges. And CNN claims that the perpetrator’s car was found near the school, with a gun and a container of propane.
