Four Italians were killed by the Taliban in the Gulistan Valley
The BBC News quoted the Italian defense ministry as saying that at least four members of the Italian armed forces who are members of NATO in that country were killed on Saturday in western Afghanistan.
The attack on a detachment of soldiers returning from a mission took place in the Gulistan Valley in Farah province. So it is reported that another one of the Italian soldiers was wounded. As for the fighters, it is not known at this time whether they suffered any casualties.
After this incident, the number of Italian servicemen killed in Afghanistan rose to thirty-four names. So between 2009 and 2010, twenty-one Italians were killed there.
A total of three thousand four hundred soldiers from the Apennine Peninsula are currently on the ground in Afghanistan. In the near future, their number will most likely be increased to four thousand, such plans were recently announced by the government of Italian President Silvio Berlusconi.
