The bill on depriving homosexuals of parental rights has been withdrawn from the State Duma

Alexei Zhuravlev, a deputy representing the United Russia party in the State Duma, refused to promote his bill concerning the deprivation of homosexuals from being called parents.

State Duma deputy Alexei Zhuravlev, a representative of the United Russia party, refused to promote his bill on depriving homosexuals of parental rights, withdrawing it from consideration. It happened as early as October 16. There are no reports as to why Zhuravlev made this decision. The document was submitted to the State Duma for consideration on September 5. It proposed that the Family Code of Russia should expand the list of reasons for deprivation of parental rights. Zhuravlev wanted the relevant article to be supplemented with a clause, thanks to which the right to be called a parent will be taken away from homosexuals, in case of a reliable confirmation of the fact. Zhuravlyov explained this initiative by the fact that the non-traditional orientation of the mother or father may harm the psyche of the child. Several laws concerning homosexual relations have already been passed in Russia this summer. There was a ban on propaganda of such relations among minors and on adoption of children by same-sex couples from abroad. The passage of these laws has been hotly debated not only by non-traditional couples, but also by the entire international community.
